Your Surname

Have you stood and thought
Of how you nabbed your surname?
If you have not, better do.
Because you do not know
That your surname
In someone's name.
He lived very long ago
As a hero.
He might have been a warrior
Or a savior,
Even a terror.
Who could have known?
Probably your late granny's father.
When he was alive
He was next to the gods,
Always, your ancestors worshipped him.
Little wonder, his name is stuck to yours
Until today.
Never change it!

This reminds me of a friend,
Adem Edem.
He ran to Rome two years ago.
He arrived home two weeks ago,
With a changed name;
Reverend Saul paul.
Reverend indeed, that same day
The godsexpressed their anger.
He went to bed hail and hearty
And never to rise again!
